Research and innovation

Our region has some of the best research and development programmes of any health system, developing the next generation of treatments, procedures and cures (including world-leading genetic research programmes). 

We work closely with Health Innovation North East and North Cumbria which supports our health and care system to accelerate innovation which improves people’s health and the regional economy. By working with its members which includes six universities, NHS Trusts and industry we are leading the way in the UK's Life Science sector.

Our Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) for the North East and North Cumbria also works with the region's universities, health and social care providers, local authorities and the VCSE sector, and members of the public to also tackle some of our biggest health and care challenges through its themed research programme.
