Our health and care partnership

The Integrated Care Partnership (ICP) is leading efforts to improve health and care in the North East and North Cumbria. It is a statutory committee of the ICB and our 14 local authorities in the region. It brings together our local councils, hospitals, community services, primary care, hospices, universities, housing providers, voluntary, community and social enterprise sector (VCSE), and Healthwatch from across the region.

It is responsible for producing our integrated care strategy on how to meet the health and wellbeing needs of our region. ICPs can identify areas for improvement and innovation, and suggest ideas and expertise for transformation programmes. They can also consider how the system can support wider socio-economic development and how to address health-related barriers to employment.

Better health and wellbeing for all

An integrated care strategy for the North East and North Cumbria

Our Integrated Care Partnership came together in 2022 to develop a plan to improve health and care in the North East and North Cumbria.

Better Health and Wellbeing for All is a 10 year plan setting out how we will reduce inequalities, improve experiences of our health and care services and improve the health and wellbeing of people living and working in our region by 2030 and beyond.

Local partnerships driving change

Our ICP is made up of three area partnerships based around our main population centres, each with an appointed chair:

  • North ICP (corresponds to the North East Mayoral Combined Authority (MCA) area and the local authorities of County Durham, Gateshead, Newcastle, North Tyneside, Northumberland, Sunderland and South Tyneside)

  • Tees Valley ICP (corresponds to the Tees Valley MCA area, and the local authorities of Darlington, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland and Stockton-on-Tees) Darlington, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland, and Stockton-on-Tees)

  • North Cumbria ICP (Cumberland, and part of Westmorland & Furness)

These area partnerships work closely with local authorities and health and wellbeing boards to understand community needs, set priorities, and create health and care solutions for local people.

Together, we are building a healthier future for everyone in the region.
