Bishop Auckland MP Sam Rushworth visits wolsingham pharmacy to support NHS Be Wise winter flu vaccination campaign

Bishop Auckland MP Sam Rushworth visited Wolsingham Pharmacy this week to hear about the Be Wise NHS Winter Flu Vaccination Campaign, which encourages people to protect themselves and others during the colder months. As part of his visit, Sam received his own flu vaccination and spoke with pharmacy staff about the importance of local, accessible healthcare services particularly in rural communities.

Sam said, “As someone with asthma, I know how important it is to stay protected during flu season. It’s great to see how easy and accessible it is to get your flu jab at a local community pharmacy.”

Pharmacist Pete Horrocks added, “For anybody wishing to book their flu jab, give the pharmacy a call or go to the NHS website."

Getting vaccinated against flu is one of the best ways to reduce the risk of serious illness and protect the most vulnerable in the community. The flu virus changes every year, so annual vaccination is vital to stay protected. The NHS offers free flu vaccinations in pharmacy to those most at risk, including people aged 65 and over, those with long-term health conditions, pregnant women, frontline health and social care workers, carers, and children aged 2 & 3.

Community pharmacies such as Wolsingham Pharmacy play a key role in making vaccinations quick and convenient for local residents. The Be Wise campaign aims to remind people that getting their flu jab is simple, safe, and effective — and helps keep both individuals and the wider community healthy this winter.
