HEALTH bosses are encouraging eligible people across Newcastle to get their spring booster before the COVID-19 vaccination seasonal offer comes to an end.

Doctors are urging anyone at greatest risk from the virus to make sure they get extra protection at one of 15 planned walk-in clinics, before the spring vaccination programme finishes on 30 June.

Around 51,107 people in Newcastle are eligible for the spring booster, in line with advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI), which includes people aged 75 and over, people aged five and over with weakened immune systems and older adult care home residents.

To date 33,688 people in Newcastle, have received their spring booster - more than 56% of those eligible.

Dr Janet Walker, primary care advisor to the North East and North Cumbria vaccination programme, said: "We want to ensure that everyone who is eligible for a spring booster has the opportunity to come forward to get extra protection against the virus.

"You can get vaccinated quickly and easily at one of our walk-in clinics, so please make the most of the few weeks ahead by protecting yourself from COVID-19 before the offer ends.”
